Skilled Trades Day at FVTC seeks to fix skills shortage

Students from various high schools attended "Skilled Trades Day" at Fox Valley Technical College's Oshkosh campus to receive hand-on experience in a number of trades.

Governor Walker touts dual enrollment for Nicolet College

Governor Walker visited Crandon high school and touted the dual enrollment program that was launched this year in partnership with Nicolet College. As a result, there are 25 Crandon students receiving college credits while in high school.

MATC students completing FAFSA for Promise Program

Almost 3,000 high school seniors signed up for the new MATC Promise program, which is a "last dollar program" that pays remaining tuition after federal and state financial aid have been applied. The process for this s requires that students complete FAFSA forms by Tuesday.

CVTC manufacturing event showcases modern technology

A number of Chippewa Valley Technical College manufacturing students showed off the high technology and the great jobs available in the field. About 40 manufacturers looking for graduates were also present at the event.

New NWTC housing to open in the fall

A four-story complex is being constructed adjacent to the main campus at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay. The building is expected to attract young adults who would like to attend a two-year college and experience living away from home.

Moraine Park event encourages girls to explore career opportunities

Moraine Park Technical College recently held the "Jane of All Trades" event, which allows women of all ages to explore non-traditional careers for women (fewer than 25 percent of workers are female).

DWD Secretary visits NTC promoting transportation jobs

Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Ray Allen joined the Wisconsin Auto and Truck Education Association at Northcentral Technical College to promote education for transportation and material moving jobs with high projected growth.

Western business students hold professional clothing drive

Students in the Western Technical College Business program are conducting a professional clothing drive that will benefit disadvantaged students who may not otherwise be able to afford clothing appropriate for job interviews.

WCTC hosts machine contest

High school students from around the area challenged each other in building a complex machine that would open an umbrella in 20 steps or more. The competition was held at Waukesha County Technical College.

Free basic computer course provided by Wisconsin Technical College System

A lack of basic computer skills can often be a hindrance for advancing in jobs or obtaining education credentials. The Wisconsin Technical College System has created a free, online course to teach students how to operate computer devices, create documents, manage files and even use social media.

High school students get real life lessons in manufacturing

High school students in Green Bay are participating in the Bay Link Manufacturing Program, which is a student-run, high precision manufacturing lab. The lab is made possible through a partnership between West High School, the Green Bay Area School District, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and the NEW Manufacturing Alliance.

Gateway training program gets State stamp of approval

The new Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Ray Allen was all smiles as he visited Gateway Technical College's iMet Center in Sturtevant. Allen was impressed with the State's return on investment into Gateway's CNC Machining Boot Camp.

Mid-State Technical College offers advanced training for the paper and food industries. The 12-credit certificate is for cutting-edge technology and includes courses in critical thinking, computer network troubleshooting and distributed control system.s

Technical colleges on wheels bring the education to students

Technical colleges in Wisconsin and the Midwest are taking the classrooms to the streets with mobile labs, packed with high-tech manufacturing machines and medical equipment. These mobile classrooms are especially advantageous to rural areas.

WITC offers free tuition for some high school seniors

Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College is the latest of Wisconsin's 16 technical colleges to promise free tuition for students with low financial means. The promise program covers tuition for eligible students above and beyond financial aid.

Dental Hygienist students offer free care to children

For the 10th year Chippewa Valley Technical College hosted a "Give Kids a Smile" event to provide free dental care to children ages 2-13. Services are offered by volunteer dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and students in the CVTC Dental Hygienist program.
